This is a profound question that will struck every single individual. Each one of us will think first and wonder what we gonna say when were asked, “ What is love?
Some may say, it is easy to define love, it is an emotion that you feel for other person, you care about that person, you are thinking about what is good to that person. Others might say, “well , I don’t believe in love. “ I already done everything for love. I gave all my best but the relationship still didn’t work out. I don’t know what is love. I already love so many times but I just ended up broken.” I don’t want to love anymore.
Every individual has their own definition of love. We define love based on our experiences. We have different opinion and perspective about love and how to love and how to be loved. Because of ignorance about the true meaning or essence of love the world is in chaos.
Every human being is seeking love from the day he was born as long as we live.
The feelings or emotion of love that we feel has different level of intensity. Defining love can help us discover which kind we need to give more of and which kind we want to receive.
There are four kinds of love according to the bible. Greek words: Eros, Philia, Storge, and Agape
- Eros – is the Greek word for sensual or romantic love, mainly based on sexual attraction and it is where the term “erotica” came from. Eros Love is the physical, sensual intimacy between a husband and.
- Philia- describes the powerful emotional bond seen in deep friendships. Philia is the most general type of love, encompassing love for fellow humans, care, respect, and compassion for people in need. The kind of love you have for your brother or a really good friend. It was more valuable and more cherished than Eros.
- Storge Love – This Greek word describes family love, the affectionate bond that develops naturally between parents and children, and brothers and sisters.
- Agape Love – The highest form of Love, selfless or unconditional love. It is the divine love that comes from God. Agape love is perfect, sacrificial, and pure.
Love is one of the most powerful emotions we can experience in this world. The bible tells us that GOD is LOVE.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres.

Understanding deeply the meaning of love will be able us to extend and share the real essence of love. It enhance our relationship with our family, husband and wife, siblings, parents, children, neighbor and to the world we live in. If there is this kind of Love in all humanity there is peace.
