Persimmon Fruit

Today, let’s talk about Persimmon fruit. I was enchanted by this fruit the first time I saw the real one in the hypermarket. There are bunches of orange round like a tomato on the rack. I picked up one piece and glanced with my eyes the tag Persimmon Fruit. I only heard this name of fruit from my grandmother before but I haven’t seen it real since it is not grown in our country.

Because I was fascinated with this fruit with the looks and taste I gathered some information about it.

Persimmon fruit is red-brown or orange fruits, flavorful and smooth textured fruit that grow on trees like plums and look like a small, rather flat tomato capped. The tree is very attractive and valued for both its wood and its fruit. This is mainly produced in China, Korea, Japan, but there are also varieties in America.

There are 2 types of Persimmon fruit, astringent and non-astringent. Astringent variety must ripen fully before they are eaten, their unripe flesh is tannic and causes an extremely unpleasant sensation in the mouth. Non-astringent  can be eaten when they are still hard. The fruit’s flavor is sweet and eaten while it is crispy like an apple and its texture is smooth. These varieties are perfect for eating out of hand, slicing into salads, or drying in thick rounds.

Benefits : Persimmons are known for their stomach-soothing properties, so eating the fruit may help you feel less bloated or constipated.
